Xmas-on-the-creek at Currumbin

Just recently I spent a lovely couple of days with paddling buddies down on the Gold Coast.  Our club attended the annual Xmas-on-the-Currumbin Creek regatta, a fun, but competitive regatta.  Probably about 18 different clubs in attendance.

Our club travelled from Tin Can Bay for a two day excursion.  Obviously there was a Xmas theme which all clubs duly planned and participated in decorating  marquees and fancy dress as well.(I’m convinced QLD is the queen of fancy dress, so many functions and events are fancy dress).  The weather played the part as well, overcast, cool and little to no wind.

Our Grinch get-ups, very colourful and a stand-out colour, cotton PJ’s, reusable and easy to paddle in.

Cooloola Dragon Boaters.  We were very competitive in the racing, especially in the 1 km race, our best ever result.  The other  five 200 m races, all except one, we were right up there and being pipped at the post for a place, excellent efforts!  Our Sweep (steerer) was a novice and whilst he had favourable conditions, he did us proud - kept us safely on course.

“Roomies”

We shared some units with amazing views of the Currumbin River and the Gold Coast strip in the background.  Admittedly our unit was on the top floor, no lift and we had to lug gear up all those floors  - one could say good exercise but it was  pretty bloody hard work,  however my only complaint for the weekend.
Our first night we spent socialising in the largest unit, we shared dishes, drank modestly and grabbed an early night.

After all the racing, fun and frivolity of the day, we adjourned to the local Razzle.  A lovely meal coupled with an assortment of cocktails and vinos.  Unfortunately it was another early night, the oldies were stuffed!
